February 2009
7th Tegernsee International Mountain Film Festival from 21 – 25 October 2009 Mountain Animals Caught in Action This autumn’s 7th Mountain Film Festival already casts its shadow onto the picturesque town of Tegernsee. Invitations and calls for entry are being sent out to producers around the globe. In the ‘Extra’ category, films exploring mountain animal life will be on show. The German Alpine Club’s special prize once again is aimed at sensational mountaineering achievement as well as at extraordinary experiences. The ‘Extra’ category, however, which welcomes films regardless of their production year, is solely focused on animal life on the mountain. ‘Due to new technical advancements, we have over the last few years witnessed the emergence of a completely new way of portraying animal life in the medium of film,’ explains the festival’s artistic director Michael Pause from Bavarian Public Broadcasting (Bayerischer Rundfunk). ‘It will be exciting for our audience to be able to compare today’s standards with those of fantastic older productions and to see how much has happened in the meantime.’ In the three main categories, film makers are asked to approach the mountains from various different thematic angles: the category ‘Mountain Experience’ concerns itself with alpinism and sportive encounters with the mountains. The best film in this category will receive the German Alpine Club’s special prize. Landscapes as well as environmental issues will become topical in the category ‘Mountain Nature’ Films. The third category, ‘Mountain Life’, will approach encounters between people and mountains with a keen interest in ethnology and culture. The best film in all three categories will be awarded the ‘Great Prize of the City of Tegernsee’ (including a cash prize of € 3,000). Additionally, the most successful junior film maker will be nominated.
